about Born For Bliss
Born for Bliss, originating in 1994, came alive with the resounding “Flowing with the Flu” in 1997, marking a culmination of a decade-long journey. Frank Weyzig and Willem van Antwerpen, Dutch members of Born for Bliss, once stirred captivating sounds alongside the revered (Clan of) Xymox. In the electrifying era of this electronic-wave legend from the mid to late 80s, Frank and Willem were integral parts of the band, contributing to the creation of Xymox’s first two timeless albums.
Joining the ensemble in 1995, Remco Helbers, the third member, found his way from Dreamside and Love Like Blood onto Born for Bliss’s stage. His unique bass technique with the ‘Chapman Stick’ and innovative use of loops and soundscapes brought a distinct dimension to the band’s sound.
This trio forged an enchanting sonic output, evident in their pre-released CD single “Arabia” (for ‘Nuclear Blast – Deathwish Office’) in 1996. This single swiftly became an addictive club hit, scaling the heights of the German alternative charts.
In 1997, ‘Flowing with the Flu’ became Born for Bliss’s eagerly awaited debut album. The band showcased impressive elegance, weaving a tapestry of captivating melodies oscillating between melancholy and dynamism, marrying 80s charm with 90s vibes. Within its first week of release, the album soared up the German alternative album charts.
Following this success, Born For Bliss embarked on recording their next album, “Between Living and Dreaming,” in 1999. Mixed at the renowned Impulse Tonstudio in Hamburg. Unfortunately, due to conflicts with their management and record label, the band disbanded soon after completing the album, and it remained unreleased.
During Frank Weyzig’s hiatus from the music scene, the master tapes for the album lay dormant in his studio. However, his resurgence in alternative music with White Rose Transmission in 2010 on the German label Echozone led to Echozone’s interest in releasing the forgotten Born For Bliss album ‘Between Living & Dreaming’ in 2011. The band reformed officially in 2013, releasing their follow-up EP ‘Innocent’.
By June 2015, a successful MusicPledge Crowdfunding campaign by Frank Weyzig fueled the release of the new Born For Bliss album ‘Falling Back to Never’ in September 2015, accompanied by a remastered version of the debut album ‘Flowing With the Flu’, featuring extra tracks and remixes.
Their subsequent releases included the 5-track EP “Better Than Me” in January 2017, followed by another 5-track EP “Falling Back” in 2018. In a surprise move for fans, in 2021, the band digitally released an instrumental version of their 2015 album “Falling Back to Never”.
Currently, Born For Bliss is diligently crafting songs for a new album, teasing fans with their latest single “Don’t Pray,” released in 2023.
